West Nile Fever is present in many eastern European countries

From the beginning of July 2011 to August 11, 2011, the World Health Organization has received reports of cases of West Nile Virus infection from the following countries: Albania (2 cases), Greece (22 cases) Israel (6 cases), Romania (1 case) and the Russian Federation (11 cases). Favourable weather conditions with rainfall and high temperatures have created a substantial increase in the mosquitoes that carry the virus.

Travellers to these and other eastern European countries should be aware of the risk of exposure to West Nile Fever and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
