West Nile fever peaking in some European countries

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, cases of West Nile fever are currently peaking in the European Union. There were 28 new cases reported over the last week, bringing the total to 106 cases reported in European Union countries. Newly affected areas include four provinces in Italy (Verona, Reggio nell-Emilia, Mantova and Bologna) and Romania (Tulcea and Constanta). Since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
