West Nile virus detected in Australia

Officials are warning people of the detection of West Nile virus in Shepparton, in northern Victoria. Current weather conditions are ideal for the breeding of the mosquito carriers and people are being advised to protect themselves against mosquito bites.

Since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
