West Nile Virus infections in Canada and the United States

In Canada, there have been 31 cases of West Nile fever reported nationwide. Slightly more than one-half of the cases have been reported by Ontario.

In the United States, there have been 1,026 cases of this infection reported by 48 states and the District of Columbia.

While the risk for the general traveller is low, since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
