West Nile virus outbreaks in Europe (update)

During the past week, 33 new cases of West Nile fever infections were detected in European Union member countries (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Hungary). Bosnia and Herzegovina reported its 1st case this year from the canton of Tuzlansko-podrinjski. In addition, cases have been reported from Israel, Russia, and Serbia. Since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
