Whooping cough (pertussis) cases may be most in last 50 years in Texas

With almost 2,000 cases of whooping cough (pertussis) reported so far this year across the state, the annual total may be on track to reach the highest level in more than 50 years.There have been 2 infant deaths due to this disease. Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of highly contagious pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at anytime. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations and their current immune status for pertussis are up-to-date prior to travelling.
