Whooping cough (pertussis) outbreaks in Canada

Two Canadian provinces (Prince Edward Island and British Columbia) are reporting outbreaks of whooping cough (pertussis). In Prince Edward Island, this is the first outbreak in 10 years. In British Columbia, there have been 22 confirmed cases on the North Coast in Haida Gwaii.

Outbreaks of pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at anytime. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations and their current immune status for pertussis are up-to-date prior to travelling.
