Whooping cough reaches epidemic proportions in Washington State, USA

Washington state's top health official has declared an epidemic level of whooping cough throughout the state. So far this year, 640 cases have been reported by 23 counties.

Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the whooping cough can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to whooping cough by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including whooping cough, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
