Wildfires in Australia threaten Melbourne

Wildfires in the state of Victoria have destroyed at least 20 homes. Firefighters are battling the fires on a 24-mile-long front in the southeast of Australia in the worst conditions since 2009. Thousands have been evacuated and about 30,000 are without power in the area. Some rural train services are disrupted. The town of Kilmore has been badly damaged and the fires have spread toward Melbourne. In the summer months, December through February, wildfires are common in Australia.
