Wildfires in UK countryside

Wildfires are spreading across the countryside of Scotland, England and Northern Ireland after unseasonably warm and dry weather. Specific areas affected include 300 hectares of Swinley Forest, west of London, moorlands in Lancashire in northwest England, northwest Ireland and the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland, and the Scottish Highlands.

Helicopters and about 150 firefighters have been deployed in an attempt to control the fires. Several people, including campers, have been rescued from the Scottish Highlands.

Travellers to the UK should be aware of the risk of wildfires in the countryside and avoid the affected areas.
