Winter snows blanket Syria, Turkey and surrounding areas

The worst winter storm in 20 years has contributed to 17 deaths in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Israel and the Palestinian territories. Schools in some areas have been shut for days, refugee camps flooded and villages isolated by closed roads. Hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees have had to cope with bitter cold while living in tents with limited access to food, fuel and power.
Traveller should check local weather and emergency reports before attempting to travel in the most affected areas. Essential services, including transportation, may be severely affected.
