Worst dengue fever season in Argentina's history

This year, Argentina has experienced the worst outbreak of dengue in its history. Approximately 76,800 cases with 11 deaths have been recorded nationwide. Earlier this year, outbreaks began in the provinces of Misiones and Formosa, followed by the province of Buenos Aires and the capital city.

The risk of exposure will vary from place to place and may be high in many localities. However, with the cooler temperatures of the winter season, mosquito activity may decrease.

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
