Worst epidemic of dengue fever in Argentina's history
Dengue fever virus transmission has been reported by 24 provinces for a total of almost 77,000 infected people. There were 11 deaths. Formosa and Misiones were the most affected provinces.
With the cooler weather of the winter season, the risk of exposure for the general traveller is now low, but not zero. Travellers in the northern, warmer areas can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
