Yellow fever continues in Angola - update

Although there are some signs of a decrease in transmission of the yellow fever virus in the current epidemic that has caused at least 345 deaths, there are now confirmed cases from 78 districts in 16 provinces. Local transmission has been confirmed in 31 districts of 12 provinces (Benguela, Cuango Cubango, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Cunene, Huambo, Huila, Luanda, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Uige, and Zaire). Luanda and Huambo remain the most affected provinces.

Advice For Travellers

It is likely that the virus has spread across the entire country. All travellers to Angola must have a yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before their arrival. The yellow fever vaccine is one of the most effective vaccines, and provides nearly 100% protection against yellow fever.
