Yellow fever outbreak in Angola may be expanding

The outbreak of yellow fever continues to be very serious with 16 of the country's 18 provinces reporting suspected cases. In 13 of these provinces, the cases were linked to visits to Luanda where most of the cases have occurred. In 2 of the 11 municipalities of Huambo province. there has been transmission by local mosquitoes. At least 1,132 suspected and confirmed cases have been reported nationally, including 168 deaths.

Advice For Travellers

The risk of exposure for travellers appears to be increasing. Travellers can minimize the risk by obtaining yellow fever vaccination 10 days prior to departure. Angola requires arriving travellers to present proof of yellow fever vaccination on arrival.
