Zika virus arrives in Ecuador

Two residents of Quito have been diagnosed with Zika virus infection. The patients acquired their infection while travelling in Colombia. Ecuador is the latest country to detect the introduction of this mosquito-borne virus.

Advice For Travellers

While there is no evidence of local transmission of this virus, the risk of exposure in Ecuador is essentially zero. However, in time, there may be spread to the local mosquitoes and then to humans. Following precautions to minimize mosquito bites will minimize any future risk.
