The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit will be held in the vibrant city of New Delhi, India, on 9 and 10 September. The summit will be held at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Pragati Maidan.

The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an international forum for the world’s twenty largest economies. It was established in 1999 to promote international economic cooperation and stability. Its members account for nearly two-thirds of the world’s population, over 75% of global trade, and approximately 85% of the world’s GDP. The summit is the highest-level meeting of the G20, and it is attended by the heads of state or government of the member countries.

Among those expected to arrive are US President Joe Biden, UK PM Rishi Sunak, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, and Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The leaders are expected to address a number of issues involving the global economy, climate change, terrorism, energy security, and digitalization. Apart from these wider themes, the forum is expected to discuss ways to address the supply chain crisis exacerbated by the ongoing belligerency between Ukraine and Russia.

Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is the Need of the Hour

The theme of the summit is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. This theme is derived from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad, which emphasizes the interconnectedness or inclusiveness of all life on earth. This theme reflects India’s commitment to sustainable development and its desire to work with other countries to address the global challenges facing the planet.

The theme of the G20 Summit is significant to the contemporary world as it highlights the importance of cooperation in addressing these challenges. The world is facing a number of interconnected challenges, such as climate change, poverty, and inequality. These challenges cannot be solved by any one country alone. They require international cooperation and coordination. The theme of the summit reminds us that we have a shared responsibility to protect our planet.

The summit is significant for a number of reasons. First, it is the first time that the G20 summit will be held in India, a rising power in the world. India’s presidency of the G20 is a manifestation of its growing influence. Second, the summit comes at a time when the global economy is facing a number of challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and rising inflation. The leaders will need to find ways to address these challenges and ensure that the global economy remains stable. Third, the summit will also be an opportunity to discuss climate change, terrorism, and other global challenges.

The leaders will need to find ways to cooperate and work together to address these challenges. As a major diplomatic event, it is expected to attract a lot of attention from the international media. India’s relations with China and Europe are also expected to be under the spotlight.

India as the Voice of the Global South

India has been positioning itself as the voice of the global south in recent years. The Global South refers to the developing countries of the world, and India is one of the largest and most powerful countries in this group.

India is expected to raise the concerns of the Global South, such as the need for debt relief, climate justice, and fair trade. India is also expected to push for a more inclusive global economic system that benefits everyone, not just the richest countries. The G20 summit is a major opportunity for India to showcase its leadership on the world stage and to build relationships with other countries. It is also an opportunity for India to highlight its commitment to sustainable development and make its voice heard on the issues that matter most to the Global South.

G20 India Mobile Application

The launch of the G20 India Mobile Application is a significant sign of India’s commitment to the summit and international cooperation. The app features a news feed, a schedule of events, and a directory of participants. It also includes a live stream of the summit and a forum where users can discuss the issues being addressed. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS devices. It is a free app and does not require any registration. It is a useful tool for anyone who is interested in the summit or international affairs. It provides a convenient way to stay up-to-date on the latest news and developments.

The G20 summit is a critical opportunity for India to demonstrate its leadership on the global stage and to work with other countries to address the challenges facing the world. The success of the summit will depend on the willingness of the leaders to cooperate and find common ground.
