Potential demonstrations on September 11 in Santiago, Chile

September 11th marks the 40th anniversary of Chile’s 1973 coup led by General Pinochet who established military rule from 1973 through 1990. Every year this day is marked by marches and demonstrations, usually in downtown Santiago near government buildings. The demonstrations usually start around noon and continue into the evening.

These demonstrations can turn violent so travellers are advised to avoid public gatherings and the areas of demonstrations. These activities can disrupt transportation.
