Lithuania Closes Two Border Crossings With Belarus

On 1 March, Lithuanian authorities will close two of Lithuania’s six border crossings with Belarus over national security issues, smuggling and violations of international sanctions. The Lavoriškės and Raigardas border crossing stations will be closed indefinitely.

The crossings at Šumskas and Tverečius were closed in 2023.

The Medininkai and Šalčininkai crossings will remain open. Starting 1 March, the movement of pedestrians and cyclists via the checkpoints will be halted. A ban will also be imposed on the pick-up and drop-off of passengers at the Kena and Kybartai railway border checkpoints, except in exceptional cases to be decided by the State Border Guard Service.
