Evacuations Ordered After Huge Quake, New Caledonia, Vanuatu

A magnitude 7.6 quake struck east of New Caledonia, about 155 km east-southeast of the Loyalty Islands, with a depth of 10 km. Authorities urged people to evacuate to locations 300 meters away from the shore and to sites higher than 12 meters above sea level. No significant damage or injuries have been reported.
