Haze Affects Health and Weather in Southern Thailand

Hazy conditions and foggy smog have reduced visibility and created health hazards in southern Thailand, including Phuket and Hat Yai cities. In Trang Province, air quality has worsened. Reportedly, the haze is due to large-scale forest and agricultural fires in Indonesia.

Travellers should check the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) updates and health advisories issued by the authorities, and minimise prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. High smog levels can cause respiratory problems, especially in travellers with pre-existing heart and lung illness and in children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with respiratory illnesses or allergies.
