Malaria occurs in this state as it does elsewhere in India. In 2015, in Kerala, there were 1,549 malaria cases and approximately one-fourth had the severe form of this infection. There were 4 deaths. While the risk of exposure will vary from place to place, in some localities the risk may be high. All travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
