COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in DRC–Kinshasa (9 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Residents and citizens are allowed to enter the country.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreigners are allowed to enter the country.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • Incoming travellers age 11 and above may have to undergo a COVID-19 test performed by the Institut National de la Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) upon their arrival at their own cost. Travellers should register their information for the test at INRBCOVID.com before they start their travel. The test on arrival can be booked in advance here.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Test certificates from other countries are accepted.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • All travellers aged 11 and above entering DRC must provide proof of a recent negative PCR certificate for COVID-19 conducted no more than three days prior to arrival.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • Travellers entering DRC must self-quarantine until they receive a negative COVID-19 test result from the test done on arrival, which may take up to 24 hours.

Entry form required? (health or other)

  • Yes

  • Inbound passengers must complete a “Travellers Registration Form” prior to arrival the form is available at inrbcovid.com. The generated QR code must be presented to the authorities upon arrival.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Commercial flights are operating to and from DRC. Last-minute delays and/or cancellations are possible. Check with your travel company for the latest information.

Border restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Air borders are open. Some land borders and ports have reopened. Neighbouring countries may close borders or have other border entry restrictions.

  • The borders between the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) North Kivu province, Rubavu District and Rwanda’s Western Province have been partially reopened.

  • All passengers age 11 and older exiting the Republic of the Congo must present a negative COVID-19 test from the INRB or a laboratory approved by the Ministry of Health, with the test performed within 3 days prior to departure. Visit INRBCOVID.com for information on testing.

Curfew restrictions

  • Minimal

  • No curfew is currently in place.

  • The state of emergency has been lifted.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Everyone should maintain social distance.

  • Self-isolation for people at risk (over 60 or with existing health issues) is mandatory in South Kivu.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Public transportation is allowed to operate with restricted passenger capacity.

  • Interprovincial travel is not restricted.

  • Travellers moving from one province to another or departing Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Bukavu, Goma, and Kisangani must present a negative COVID 19 certificate conducted within 7 days prior to travel.

  • Wearing face masks in public places is mandatory in Kinshasa and in South Kivu. Violators may be subject to a fine.

  • Establishments such as night clubs, pubs are closed, however, performance halls, and stadiums have been reopened.
