Violent Protests in Kenya
On 7 July, at least 11 people were killed and 52 others were injured across Kenya during protests to mark the anniversary of pro-democracy rallies in 1990. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse demonstrators in Nairobi. Several incidents of looting and damage to vehicles were also reported. Police had blocked major roads leading into Nairobi and restricted traffic within the city in anticipation of the protests. Further protests and residual disruptions are likely.

Traffic restrictions are possible. To minimize safety risks, avoid areas of large public gatherings or protests. Even events intended to be peaceful can escalate unexpectedly and quickly become violent.
