Vaccination Recommended for Tick Borne Encephalitis in Europe.

Based on an extensive review of the known or possible risk for tick-borne encephalitis transmission in Europe, the NaTHNaC [National Travel Health Network and Centre] of the UK Health Security Agency recommends vaccination against this infectious disease for travellers whose activities may place them at risk while visiting the following countries: Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Korea, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia (Russian Federation), Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

ticks. Travellers in countries where this infection occurs should avoid tick habitats such as fields and forests where possible. Daily tick checks and prompt removal of an attached tick will help to reduce the risk of infection. Vaccination (only available in Europe) may be considered, especially if itineraries involve extensive hiking and camping in tick habitats.
