Increased cases of tick-borne encephalitis reported in Austria
Since the beginning of 2011, a total of 100 cases of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) have been reported.
Human infection with TBE virus may cause a potentially serious neurological disease. Three doses of TBE vaccine are needed for protection. Vaccination is only recommended for people living or spending time in high risk areas, especially when camping or hiking in tick habitats.
