Cholera outbreak in T'boli, Mindanao, Philippines said to be under control

Contaminated water sources in T’boli have been blamed for the outbreak of cholera that began on May 24th and resulted in at least 100 cases and the deaths of 2 children. Authorities have announced that the epidemic is “under control” since no new cases have been discovered. Nevertheless, travellers to this area can reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
