Rebels Seize Goma Airport - DRC

On 28 Janaury, the Mouvement du 23 Mars (M23) rebel group seized control of Goma Airport after fighting with the Congolese army. The rebels occupied Bweremana (North Kivu) and Minova (South Kivu) on 20 January after intense fighting with the Congolese army. At least 10 people were killed in retaliatory operations.

In Kinshasa, protestors attacked and started fires at missions belonging to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United States, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and the United Nations. Several embassy gates were set on fire. Looters ransacked the Embassy of Kenya. Police fired tear gas at the protestors.

More violent clashes are likely.
