COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Nauru (5 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreign nationals are allowed to enter.

  • Travellers intending to visit Nauru via air or sea must have either spent 14 days in Australia (excluding the state of Victoria), Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States), New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Taiwan, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu or must apply for exemption at least three days prior to travel to Nauru. Nauru authorities have the right to accept or reject the request.

  • If any traveller transitted through or was in Hong Kong, mainland China, Iran, Macao, Korea, Italy, Europe, Asia or US within 21 days before travel to Nauru, they will not be allowed to enter.

  • In the case of maritime travellers:

  • A vessel arriving directly from any of the following countries and without contact with any other vessel is allowed to enter the port at Aiwo district in Nauru: Australia (excluding the State of Victoria), Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States), New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Island, Taiwan, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu.

  • A vessel arriving from any country other than the above-listed countries must have spent 14 days at sea without any contact with other vessels before entering the port at Aiwo district in Nauru.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • In the case of maritime travellers:

  • All travellers in the vessel will undergo a COVID-19 test.

  • On arrival at a seaport, health screening will be carried out by the authorities.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • A negative report for a COVID-19 PCR test conducted within three days of departure is required. The test report must be in English and from a certified laboratory.

  • The negative COVID-19 test report is not required for passengers arriving via sea.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All incoming passenger must undergo at least 14 days quarantine on arrival.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • All travellers are required to submit a health-declaration card, undergo mandatory health screening, including temperature checks, and pass a travel-history review on arrival.

  • In the case of maritime travellers:

  • A health declaration form, traveller list, crew list, cargo manifest, last two port details, and list of travellers with symptoms or a positive case are required prior to arriving at the Nauru port.

Airline restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Flights are operating, but commercial flights to and from Nauru are very limited.

  • Flights to and from Brisbane are operating regularly.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • The government is requesting passengers to avoid non-essential travel.

Curfew restrictions

  • Minimal

  • A state of public emergency is in place until further notice.

  • The government has not enforced any lockdown or social distancing protocols within the country.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Minimal

  • People are encouraged to maintain social distancing measures.

  • Workplaces are open and maintaining hygiene practices.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Public transportation is not available in Nauru, thus there are no restrictions.

  • Private vehicles are allowed to circulate.

Non-essential shops open?

  • Yes

  • Shops are open.

Restaurants open?

  • Yes

  • Restaurants are open with COVID-19 restrictions.

Bars and cafes open?

  • Yes

  • Bars are open maintaining COVID-19 restrictions.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Individuals are advised to wear face masks all the time. Travellers must wear face masks during the duration of the flight.

Other

  • Schools are open.
