Piraña fish attack swimmers at beach on Paraná River in Argentina
When many families went swimming at a popular beach on the Paraná River in the municipality of Rosario, at least 60 people were attacked by palometas fish, a species of pirañas. Some had serious bites on their extremities. One child had a finger partially amputated. High temperatures of at least 38C contributed to the aggressive behaviour of the fish. Travellers should follow local warnings when swimming in local rivers.
