Worst flooding in 100 years in Niger (update)

Some fo the heaviest rainfall in 100 years caused the River Niger to overflow flooding the regions of Tillabery in the north and the suburbs of the capital city Niamey. The Dosso Region has been the most affected. Overall more than 14,000 homes have been destroyed and 7,000 crop fields inundated, leaving many people homeless and without food.

Travellers should exercise caution and consider avoiding travel in the affected areas since essential services may be severely disrupted.
