There are reports of 165 cases of chikungunya fever in East Jakarta. In the current outbreak, the most affected areas include Palmeriam Urban Village, Cakungbarat, Jatinegara, Pondokkelapa, Rawaterate, Pondokbambu, Cipinangmelayu, Halim Perdanakusumah, Makasar and Pondokkopi. In the past 7 months, cases of this infection have been reported in Bali, West Sumatra, Central Java, and West Java.
Travellers to areas where chikungunya fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with chikungunya fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
