In addition to the outbreak of cholera reported in the northern regions of Kunene, Omusati, Oshana and Ohangwena where 504 cases and 16 deaths have been registered, there are now reports of a different cholera outbreak in the capital city of Windhoek. So far there have been 39 suspected and 3 confirmed cases.
Travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
