Lær mereCholera outbreak in Yangon, Myanmar
In the last 2 weeks, a cholera outbreak in Yangon’s South Okkalapa township has resulted in at least 380 patients seeking treatment at an emergency clinic and Thingangyun Sanpa Hospital. The town’s water supply has tested positive for the cholera bacteria.
All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
