COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Peru (10 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens are allowed to enter Peru.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • Yes

  • Passengers in transit do not require a negative test result nor the sworn statement.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All passengers will be subject to security and health screenings.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Travellers must present a negative COVID-19 test result obtained within 72 hours before departure.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All travellers will be required to quarantine for up to 14-days upon arrival.

  • The use of Protégete con Salud application is optional for self-assessment of COVID-19 signs/symptoms.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • 72 hours in advance of flights, all passengers arriving in Peru must sign a sworn statement that they will comply with the compulsory 14-day quarantine and attest that they are symptom-free of COVID-19 upon entry. Travellers can find the electronic sworn declaration here.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • International flights have resumed to some regional countries, including Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Panama.

  • Passengers must wear face coverings/masks and a face shield while travelling and at all times in Jorge Chávez International Airport.

  • More passenger flight operations restarted from Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Jamaica, Mexico, and the United States (Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando and New York).

  • As of 15 December, flight operations will resume to Amsterdam (Netherlands), Madrid, Barcelona (both in Spain), ​​Paris (France), and London (United Kingdom).

Border restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Rail, river, and maritime transportation are allowed to operate within the Latin American region.

  • Cruise ships are currently not permitted to dock in Peruvian ports.

  • Authorities will gradually reopen land borders.

Curfew restrictions

  • Significant

  • Authorities extended the nationwide state of emergency until 31 December.

  • A daily night curfew from 00:00 until 04:00 (local time) is in effect.

  • Authorities extended a nationwide the state of health emergency from 7 December for 90 days.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Significant

  • Social gatherings and large gatherings remain prohibited.

  • Maintenance of social distancing protocols is mandatory in all public places.

  • Children are no longer restricted.

  • Adults over 65-year old and high-risk individuals must remain in quarantine and cannot leave their residence with the exception of a medical emergency, going to the grocery store, bank or pharmacy.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Inter-provincial transportation has resumed throughout Peru. However, commercial domestic travel is only permitted in regions during a date and time when there is no lockdown or curfew.

  • Wearing a face mask and facial protectors is mandatory when travelling on public transport.

  • Movement of private vehicles on Sundays is prohibited.

  • Yes

  • Shops are open with limited capacity. Travel agencies and tourist services are allowed to resume services.

  • Markets, retail food outlets, supermarkets, and financial entities, including banks, are open with limited capacity.

Accommodations open?

  • Yes

  • Accommodations are open.

Restaurants open?

  • Yes

  • Restaurants are open with limited capacity.

Bars and cafes open?

  • No

  • Bars, casinos, clubs, and cinemas remain closed.

Beaches and tourism sites open?

  • Yes

  • Beaches are open from Monday through Thursday.

Places of worship open?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Worship places can reopen with limited capacity for special ceremonies like weddings, funerals, baptisms, and communion.

Events allowed?

  • No

  • Civil events, parades, festivals, meetings, cultural, social, and political events remain prohibited.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Face masks and maintenance of social distancing protocols are mandatory in all public places.

Other Restrictions

  • Peru is currently under phase 4 of reopening.

  • Schools remain closed. However, in rural areas, where there is minimal means of communication, internet connection and places with zero COVID-19 cases, there are a small number of in-person classes held in primary and schools.
