Hepatitis A Outbreak in Germany

A small outbreak of hepatitis A has been traced to a bakery as the source, probably due to contamination of food products by an infected employee. A total of 23 infections have been reported in the community of Dummerstorf in the Rostock district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Three more test results are pending. The bakery has been closed.

Råd

Travellers should be aware that hepatitis A is preventable through vaccination. When there is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus, travellers can basically eliminate this risk by obtaining the vaccine prior to travelling and by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food and water and close personal contact (including sexual activities) with infected persons.
