Chikungunya virus outbreak reported in West Java, Indonesia

There are reports that an outbreak of chikungunya virus that was detected in the villages of Mandalsa, District Cipatat, West Bandung regency, West Java, is spreading to other areas. Although there were 10 cases reported in Mandalsa, the number of cases in other areas is not reported. Travellers to areas where chikungunya fever virus is active canreduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautionsto avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with chikungunya fever may not seekmedical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be manymore cases in the community that are not reported.
