COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Afghanistan (22 June Update)

Airline restrictions and relaxations

• Emirates, Fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines, Air India, and Kam Air suspended all flights from Kabul.

• Authorities have announced that domestic flights may be resumed in a few days with strict precautions.

Border Relaxations

All borders except the border with Iran and Pakistan remain closed. Afghanistan re-opened its border with Iran, which had been closed briefly to all air and ground travel.

Curfew Restrictions

The lockdown applies to provincial districts including Kabul city, Herat, Farah, Jalalabad (Nangarhar), Asadabad (Kunar), and Zaranj (Nimroz).

Violation of the current restrictions could result in severe penalties, including imprisonment.

Social Distancing Restrictions

• All non-essential businesses are closed, and only essential services and shops are open.

• Face masks are mandatory in public.

• Gatherings of more than ten people are banned.

• Hotels will be closed until September.

• Schools and universities will remain closed until September.

• Entertainment and places for social gatherings, sports venues, wedding halls, and other public places are closed until further notice.

• Restaurants and catering establishments are limited to take-out services only.

Travel Restrictions

• Bus and mini-bus services are suspended.

• Private vehicles may operate with a maximum of four passengers.
