Strong 7.8 magnitude earthquake along Iran-Pakistan border kills 13

A strong 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Iran near the town of Khash in Iran, close to the border with Pakistan. At least 15 people or more were killed in this sparsely populated area. Most of the damage and death appears to have occurred on the Pakistan side of the border. Reports of injuries are not available at this time. The effects of the quake were felt across Balochistan, Karachi and as far as New Delhi and the Gulf Arab states. Travellers should exercise caution and avoid travelling in the affected area, since essential services, such as power and transportation, may be severely affected.
