Large outbreak of typhoid fever in Albay Province, Philippines

An outbreak of typhoid fever involving at least 66 people in Oas has been reported. Of these, 23 people were hospitalized. Consuming contaminated water from the town reservoir is blamed for the outbreak. This outbreak began in mid-May. Travellers to this city can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
