Chad Closes Border with CAR, Libya and Sudan

To restore security, prevent inter-communal violence and put an end to arms trafficking, on 21 August, the Chad government closed the land border crossings with the Central African Republic (CAR), Libya and Sudan. The borders were closed as a result of the three-month state of emergency imposed on 18 August in the eastern Ouaddai, Sila and Tibesti regions of the country.

However, some of the borders will remain open and with heightened surveillance. Opened borders are:

CAR border region – Gore (Logone Oriental region) and Sido (Moyen Chari region)
Libyan border region – Kouri 35 (Tibesti), Mourni (Ennedi East) and Ounianga (Ennedi West)
Sudanese border region – Adre (Ouaddai), Amdjireme (Sila) and Tine (Wadi Fira region)

Råd

Anticipate heightened security measures in the three affected regions including travel restrictions. Avoid travelling to the region until the situation normalizes.
