Although decreasing, malaria is still a risk in Cambodia

Health authorities in Cambodia reported 7,890 malaria cases in the first four months of this year compared to 17,043 cases during the same period last year (a 57 percent decrease). So far there have been only 3 deaths reported. Nevertheless, the risk of malaria remains throughout the year in all forested rural areas, including coastal areas, with the exception of Phnom Penh, areas close to Tonle Sap (Siem Reap) and within the tourist area of Angkor Wat. Travellers to this country can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
