Scopri di piùSushi and raw tuna implicated in Salmonella outbreak in California
An investigation of 25 cases of Salmonella reported in California and elsewhere has implicated raw tuna and sushi as possible sources of the infections. Eighteen of the cases have been confirmed in California (Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside and Santa Barbara Counties). The other seven patients live outside California but have visited the state. The source of the contaminated fish is still under investigation.
Infections with salmonella bacteria can cause a gastro-intestinal illness (fever, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps) that can be mild and self-limiting to severe. Most people recover within 4 to 7 days without any special treatment other than fluids to prevent dehydration. Travellers can reduce the risk of acquiring salmonella infections by following food and water precautions.
