COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Djibouti (24 November Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreigners are allowed to enter Djibouti.

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • Yes

  • Transit is allowed.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Health screening procedures are in place at every entry point.

  • Travellers 12 years or older must get tested for COVID-19 at their own expense and remain at the entry point until their test result is available, which could take up to four hours. All passengers are tested for COVID-19 using a minimally invasive saliva test. Passengers should not eat anything 30 minutes before arrival.

  • If a high percentage of passengers on a particular flight receive a positive saliva test, the Government of Djibouti may require all passengers to complete a second, nasal swab COVID-19 test.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes

  • Test certificates issued outside Djibouti are accepted. The certificate must be issued in English or French.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes with exceptions.

  • Travellers older than 12 years must carry a medical certificate having a report of negative PCR test issued at most 72 hours before departure and maximum 120 hours before arrival in Djibouti.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • Travellers 12 years or older must get tested for COVID-19 at their own expense. Travellers with a negative result will be free to go to their accommodation. Travellers with positive results will be taken to a government-designated hospital or hotel and remain in quarantine until they receive a negative test result (at the traveller’s expense).

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Ambouli International Airport is open for commercial passenger flights.

  • Ethiopian Airlines, Air Djibouti, Air France, Fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways have resumed their operations in Djibouti.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Air, sea, and land borders are open.

  • Railway transport to and from Addis Ababa will remain suspended for passengers until further notice. Railway transport for freight movements is operating.

  • Any traveller entering Djibouti via any port of entry must wear face masks during arrival and departure and must maintain a physical distance of minimum one meter. Travellers must also carry hydro-alcoholic gel throughout the trip.

  • E-VISA will be accepted in Ambouli International Airport only and not in any other entry points.

  • UK Emergency Travel Documents are allowed for entry to, transit through and exit from Djibouti.

Curfew restrictions

  • Minimal

  • There is no lockdown or curfew in place at this time.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Gatherings up to a maximum of ten people are allowed.

  • Maintaining a minimum one-meter distance between two individuals is compulsory.

  • Public transportation services are operating.

  • Hotels and other rental accommodations are allowed to open.

  • Beaches and tourism sites are open.

Personal care services open?

  • Yes

  • Some salons are open in Djibouti.

  • Places of worship have opened with social distancing requirements.

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Face masks are mandatory in public or private spaces where social distancing is not possible.

  • Government offices have reopened.

  • Night clubs, theatres and cinemas have reopened.

  • Public and private construction activities have resumed.

  • Public institutions, central administration services, and some higher education institutions are allowed to resume activities.

  • Daycares and schools are allowed to open.

  • Leisure facilities, community centres, and sports activities are allowed to resume.
