アドバイス
The risk for the general traveller is probably low. In general most of the malaria in Nicaragua is due to the less dangerous strain called P. vivax. Risk areas include mainly in the Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte, with sporadic transmission also reported in Boaca, Chinandega, Jinoteca, Léon and Matagalpa. Cases are reported from other municipalities in the central and western departments but the risk is very low.
All travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
