COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Honduras (7 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

• Yes

• Residents and citizens are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

• Yes

• Foreign nationals can enter.

Test certificate allowed?

• Yes

• Test certificates obtained outside of Honduras are accepted.

Test certificate required?

• Yes

• All incoming travellers must provide a COVID-19 test report issued no more than 72 hours prior to arrival. RT-PCR, rapid antibody, and rapid antigen tests are accepted.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

• No with exceptions

• Travellers with any symptoms of COVID-19, or who have had contact with an infected person, or who have a travel history in COVID-19 affected countries may be subject to a 14-day quarantine on arrival.

Entry form required?

• Yes

• All inbound and outbound travellers must complete a pre-check form available [here] (https://prechequeo.inm.gob.hn/Login) and answer all questions related to health screening, immigration, and customs. After completing the form, travellers will receive a confirmation email. All travellers will need to carry a printed copy of the email with them.

• Upon arrival, travellers will be asked to complete an immigration form where they will be required to provide the address where they will be staying.

Recommended Border App

• Yes with exceptions.

• It is recommended that travellers use the contact tracing app “TECUIDO”. However, the app is currently not available due to a potential privacy issue.

Airline restrictions

• Minimal

• Airports are open. Domestic and international commercial flight services have resumed.

• Cargo, humanitarian, and special approved flights are operating.

Border restrictions

• Minimal

• Air borders are open for international travel.

• Honduran authorities have reopened the land borders with El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

• International bus services have resumed.

• All outbound travellers will be required to complete a pre-registration form. There is no testing required for departure.

Curfew restrictions

• Moderate

• The Honduran government temporarily suspended the nationwide overnight curfew between 23:00 to 05:00 (local time) to aid the Tropical Depression ETA response efforts. Shopping and essential activities will be allowed daily from 05:00 to 22:00 without regard to the identification number.

Social distancing restrictions

• Moderate

• Gatherings are limited to a maximum of ten people.

• Honduras has moved into the next phase of the easing of the restrictions. The current status of the municipalities is:

  • Phase 1: Amapala, Bonito Oriental, Brus Laguna, Danli, Intibucá, Juticalpa, La Esperanza, La Paz, Langue, Las Vegas, Moroceli, Nacaome, Ocotepeque, Orocuina, Pespire, Pimienta, Potrerillos, Puerto Lempira, Reitoca, Saba, San Antonio de Flores, San Buenaventura, San Francisco de Coray, San José, San Lorenzo, Santa Lucia, Santa Maria, Sinuapa, Tocoa, Trinidad, Trujillo.

  • Phase 2: All other areas except the municipalities under Phase 1.

• Banks, supermarkets, pharmacies, vegetable shops, medical centres, and fuel stations will remain open during weekdays from 06:00 to 20:00 (local time).

• Vulnerable persons, including pregnant women, elderly persons, and those with disabilities, will be allowed exclusive access to shops and pharmacies from 07:00 to 09:00 (local time) and to banks from 09:00 to 10:00 (local time) on their designated shopping day.

Internal travel restrictions

• Significant

• A letter of safe passage or permission to transit called a “salvoconducto” is required. Salvoconductos must be processed by the Honduran police. Please visit this website to process a request for a “salvoconducto”.

• There is no public transport available in Honduras. Travellers going to or from the airport will need to hire a private taxi or driver.

• Movement is allowed between 06:00 to 20:00 (local time) according to the last digit of their national identification card.

Non-essential shops open?

• Yes with exceptions

• Under phase one, non-essential businesses may reopen with extremely-reduced capacity. Under phase 2, businesses may reopen with moderately-reduced capacity.

Accommodations open?

• Yes with exceptions.

• Some hotels and accommodations are open depending on the current local situation. Visitors are advised to call in advance to confirm hotel reservations and also to learn of any specific requirements the accommodation may have.

Bars and cafes open?

• No

• Bars are closed.

Personal care services open?

• No

• Gyms are closed.

Events allowed?

• No

• All public events remain suspended. All public gatherings remain suspended, except for religious activities.

Masks required in public?

• Yes

• Face masks are mandatory in public, including on public transport and inside airports. A violation of this directive for the first time is subject to a fine or community service while a repeat violation may lead to imprisonment.
