Severe Flooding in Northeast QLD - Australia

As of 18 December, due to ongoing thunderstorms and heavy rains, severe flooding has been reported across the Far North and Northeastern Queensland. There is a shortage of essential supplies at supermarkets. Drinking water levels are also critically low, disrupting water supply in the affected areas. Flood waters are infested with crocodiles. Emergency evacuations and relief operations are underway. Operations at Cairns Airport remain suspended. Adverse weather is expected to continue. Travel disruptions are likely.

アドバイス

  • Avoid the affected areas, if possible, since there may be power outages, water supply interruptions and damage to infrastructure, such as roads, transportation and communication systems.

  • Be cautious and consult local meteorological reports wherever available through local media (TV, radio, and local alerts).

  • Inundation may disrupt road, rail and air travel. Check with the airports/airline/travel providers to determine if your travel plans are affected. Follow the advice of local authorities.

  • Avoid non-essential travel during adverse weather. Expect and prepare for rapidly deteriorating travel conditions.

  • Avoid contact with flood water due to possible risk of contamination.
