Puffer Fish Warning in Egypt

The health authorities in Daqahlīyah governorate are warning the public to avoid consumption of puffer fish (also know as rabbit fish or Takifudo) products in local markets. This fish is highly toxic for humans.

Puffer fish contain a poison known as tetrodotoxin, which is an extremely toxic poison. Symptoms may include numbness and tingling around the mouth, salivation, nausea and vomiting. Symptoms Symptoms might progress to paralysis, loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, and death within hours of consumption. There is no available antidote.
