COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Namibia (10 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes
    • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter the country.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes
    • Anyone intending to travel to Namibia must notify the nearest Namibian Embassy or High Commission of their intent to travel no less than two weeks prior to departure.

    • Namibia is open for international tourists.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • Non-Namibian travelers arriving with a negative result that is older than 72 hours will be placed in quarantine and tested for COVID-19 on the same day at their own expense and will only be released if the results of this test return negative. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 5 years.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes

  • COVID-19 test certificates issued in another country are accepted. It must be issued in English.

Test certificate required?

  • All non-Namibian travelers arriving in Namibia are required to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result from their country of departure which is not older than 72 hours. Non-Namibian travelers arriving with a negative result that is older than 72 hours will be placed in quarantine and tested for COVID-19 on the same day at their own cost and will only be released if the results of this test return negative.

  • This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 5 years.

  • Test certificates must be issued in English.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

    • Non-Namibian travelers arriving with a negative result that is older than 72 hours will be placed in quarantine and tested for COVID-19 on the same day at their own cost and will only be released if the results of this test return negative.
  • Anyone with a positive test result will be isolated at their own cost, according to Namibia’s isolation protocols.

Insurance required?

  • Yes

  • Incoming passengers must have medical insurance to cover medical expenses if required.

Entry form required? (health or other)

  • Yes

  • A COVID-19 epidemiological surveillance form must be completed by all incoming travellers and presented to the authorities upon arrival. The form is available here.

Airline restrictions

  • Commerical international flights are operating.

  • Hosea Kutako International Airport has resumed operations.

  • Domestic air travel has resumed.

  • Qatar Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, and Eurowings are operating flights in and out of Namibia.

Border restrictions

  • Namibia reopened its air borders for international tourists.

  • Seaports are open. Some land borders are open. Only Katima Mulilo, Ariamsvlei, and Noordoewer border posts and Walvis Bay Harbor can be used for tourist entries by land and sea

  • Anyone travelling to Namibia for business, health, or education must inform their nearest Namibian High Commission or Embassy of their plans 14 days before their intended travel.

  • There is no curfew in place.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Face masks and keeping a distance of 1.5 meters with others are mandatory in public places. Anyone found violating the regulations will be fined or imprisoned.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Masks must be worn on public transportation.

  • Inter-city travel is allowed.

  • Public transport and private vehicles may operate at full capacity.

Non-essential shops open?

  • Yes

  • Non-essential shops are open.

Accommodations open?

  • Yes

  • Accommodations are open.

  • Tourists are allowed to use only NTB registered or health certified tourism facilities.

Restaurants open?

  • Yes

  • Restaurants are open.

Bars and cafes open?

  • Bars and other establishments that serve alcohol on site are allowed to open. Casinos and nightclubs are not allowed to open.

Places of worship open?

Events allowed?

  • Gatherings of up to 200 people for funerals, weddings, and religious services are allowed.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Face masks are mandatory in public places.

  • Sale of alcohol by shebeens and bars is permitted until midnight.
