New typhoid fever outbreak in Harare, Zimbabwe

A new outbreak of typhoid fever has been reported in Harare. There have been 13 cases so far. Interruptions in the water supply cause residents to obtain water from unsafe water points. Travellers to this city can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Only bottled water should be drunk. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
